In Wayland, garden centers are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have more time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in Massachusetts, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Many nurseries close or shorten hours in winter, so check the listing for current hours and Google rating before you go.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 9 am–6 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (508) 358-2283. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is russellsgardencenter.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Customers rate it 4.6 out of 5 on Google across 478 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded plant nurseries in Wayland.
Wayland is in Massachusetts, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Wayland follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Russell's is an excellent garden center. Their plant stocks are trucked in but they are more selective in who the get plants from judged by the quality of the plants we have bought. They have a very knowledgable staff especially in the shrub and rose areas but I haven't needed help in other areas. Like most garden centers they can be very busy on weekends in May and June. If you are new to gardening and have a lot of questions you will get more help on a weekday and maybe asking if an appointment would be possible.

Beautiful place to shop for plants and everything needed for your garden 🌿✨ From herbs and seeds to so many beautiful plants, they have almost everything here. Loved visiting this place! The plant prices were reasonable too, and it’s one large spot for all your gardening needs 🌱🪴 One thing that especially interested me was checking for a vegetable called “gangavalli kura” from India. One of my friends mentioned they found it here, and that was actually the main reason I visited. I was looking for the plant, and I did find one variety, but it wasn’t exactly what I was searching for. In English, it’s called “purslane,” which many Americans consider a weed, but for us in India, it’s a very healthy leafy vegetable often cooked with lentils and enjoyed for its health benefits 🌿💚 The one I found here had more of a golden yellow-green color, so I skipped buying it this time. Still, I was honestly surprised to see so many varieties from different parts of the world. It’s such a great place to check if you miss vegetables or plants from your home country 🌎✨ Great job, Russell’s! Also, the staff everywhere were very friendly and helpful 😊❤️

This was my first time visiting Russell's Garden Center and I was beyond thrilled!!! The selection of anything you might want for your garden was amazing ! I was looking for a specific woodland native perennial which they had in stock plus tons of fabulous annuals!! The inventory was incredible and the way the plants both perennials, annuals plus accessories for the garden was impressive, incredible and very well organized! As a longtime expert gardener I was amazed at the entire nursery!! Russell's is beyond a 5 star nursery! Definitely worth a visit! I will be returning!

Russell's is the gardener's 'Disneyland' 🤣 It is like stepping into a whole world of gardening needs where you can find gift offerings as well. High prices otherwise it would have been 5 stars. Beautiful to walk through. The clothes are fun & interesting & priced fairly reasonably. Salespeople are nice.

Russell’s Garden Center sits along Route 20 in Wayland, a longtime stop for gardeners and home growers across MetroWest. What looks like a modern retail space today is actually part of a business with roots stretching deep into Massachusetts agricultural history. Founded in 1876, Russell’s began as a family-run farm and gradually evolved into one of New England’s best-known garden centers. Over generations, it expanded from produce and nursery stock into a full-service destination offering annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, houseplants, and seasonal displays. Beyond plants, Russell’s reflects how traditional New England farms adapted to suburban growth while staying locally owned. Its scale, plant selection, and year-round operation make it both a working nursery and a regional landmark for gardeners who return season after season. #russellsgardencenter #waylandma #shoplocal #newenglandgardens #gardenhistory #massachusettslife
